Travel Vaccinations
If you are planning to travel abroad, please contact the practice well in advance to allow sufficient time for your travel vaccination requirements to be assessed and any necessary vaccinations to be arranged.
Please be aware that the provision of travel vaccinations is not a contractual requirement under our practice’s core NHS contractual duties. Our contractual obligations and essential clinical services will therefore be prioritised when allocating appointment availability. As a result, we cannot guarantee that a travel vaccination appointment will be available, particularly where limited notice is given.
To enable our practice nurses to assess your travel requirements, you must complete and submit the travel assessment form before an appointment can be considered. Once received, the form will be reviewed by a practice nurse, who will determine which vaccinations are recommended based on your destination and travel plans. We will contact you in due course to advise you of the recommended vaccinations and the next steps.
Please note the following:
- Assessment and recommendations: Vaccinations will be recommended following a review of your completed travel assessment form.
- Vaccine costs: Some travel vaccinations are only available privately and will incur a charge. Payment is required upfront for all privately purchased vaccines, as these must be ordered specifically for you. A receipt will be provided as proof of purchase.
- Vaccine ordering: Once payment has been received, where applicable, the required vaccines will be ordered. You will be contacted when they arrive at the practice, and an appointment will then be arranged, subject to availability.
- NHS-funded vaccines: Vaccines available free on the NHS must also be ordered where necessary, and appointments will need to be arranged at appropriate intervals in accordance with the recommended vaccination schedule.
- Appointment availability: Sufficient notice is essential. The assessment process, vaccine ordering and delivery times, and the intervals required between doses must all be taken into consideration. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer appointments within your requested timeframe, particularly if you contact us at short notice.
We strongly advise completing the travel assessment form as early as possible, ideally several weeks/months before your departure, to allow adequate time for assessment, vaccine procurement and scheduling.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
